Not every job is a whole lawn. We often lay artificial grass over a tired patio, a corner by the back door or an old deck that's become slippery. On a sound, well-drained hard surface the grass can go straight on top, sometimes with a foam underlay to make it softer underfoot.
Laying grass over decking does mean the timber underneath dries more slowly, so we'll talk you through the trade-off before we start.
Dogs and Walks by the Loddon
The footpaths along the Loddon between Charvil and Twyford are perfect for dog walks, and not so perfect for paws in winter. An artificial lawn keeps the mud outside. Can children play football on it every day?
Yes. It doesn't wear into a bare goalmouth or turn to mud in winter. A shorter, denser grass takes the most punishment and rolls a ball well.
Can you lay grass over our patio?
Often, yes. If the patio is sound and water can drain off it, we can fit artificial grass directly on top, sometimes with a foam underlay for extra comfort.
Will the dog be able to dig it up?
No. The grass is fixed down over a compacted base, so there's nothing to dig into. For dogs that chew, we have a 37mm grass with a non-toxic PU backing.
