Artificial Grass Installation in Sonning

Sonning is one of the prettiest villages on the Thames, with most of it inside a conservation area and a garden heritage that includes the Deanery Garden, designed by Edwin Lutyens with planting by Gertrude Jekyll. Gardens here are often established and carefully planted, and a new lawn has to fit in rather than stand out.

That's why we usually suggest one of our luxury grasses here: dense, soft underfoot and close enough to a real lawn that visitors don't notice the difference.

What We Offer in Sonning

Choosing a Grass for a Period Garden

The difference between a convincing artificial lawn and an obvious one is mostly the grass itself.

  • Colour: a mix of greens, with a natural brown thatch at the base
  • Pile height: longer, fuller piles look lusher next to borders
  • Density: more fibres per square metre means a fuller look that springs back
  • UV protection: so the colour holds for years, even in full sun

We bring large samples to every survey, because a grass always looks different in your own garden. See the full range of grasses.

Edges, Borders and Old Walls

The finishing is what makes an artificial lawn look like it belongs. In established gardens we cut the grass tight to old brick walls and paths, finish against beds with timber or sleepers, and work around trees without disturbing their roots. Where a lawn meets a gravel drive or terrace, we fix a firm edge so the grass stays put.

Riverside Gardens

The north of the parish is very low-lying land beside the Thames, and some gardens near the river get wet for long spells. A real lawn in that situation is often more moss than grass. An artificial lawn on a properly built, free-draining base copes far better, and after high water it just needs brushing and rinsing off. More on how we build the base.

Sonning Artificial Grass FAQs

Will artificial grass look out of place in an older garden?

Not if you choose the right grass. A dense grass with a mix of green tones and a natural-looking thatch at the base reads as a well-kept lawn rather than a carpet. We bring large samples so you can see them in your own light.

How much does it cost?

Supply and fit starts from £75 per m² with our most popular grass; luxury grasses cost a little more. We confirm a fixed price after a survey. See our prices.

Our garden is close to the river. What happens if it floods?

The grass and membrane let water through, and once flood water has gone down, any silt can be brushed and hosed off. A well-built base stays flat afterwards. We'll look at how often your garden gets wet when we survey it.

Can you work around mature trees and borders?

Yes. We cut the grass carefully around trees, beds and paths, and take care not to damage roots when preparing the ground.

Do you work in Sonning Eye and nearby villages?

Yes, including Sonning Eye, Charvil, Woodley, Earley and Caversham.
